0553 - Fire Sprinkler Design Engineer
We're recruiting on behalf of our client — details are shared with shortlisted candidates.
You'll design fire sprinkler systems that protect real buildings and real lives. If you know NFPA 13 inside out, can run hydraulic calculations without breaking a sweat, and understand how standpipe systems and ESFR sprinklers work, this role gives you the technical depth to make a difference.
We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a fire protection engineering firm that trusts its designers to own projects from conception to installation. You'll prepare detailed working drawings, perform hydraulic calculations, coordinate with other trades, and help field teams solve real problems on site. AutoSprink software training is provided—if your fundamentals are solid, you'll pick it up fast.
✨ About the role
You'll work 3pm–11pm US Eastern time from an office in South Africa, project managing and delivering detailed fire sprinkler system drawings. This is hands-on design work: hydraulic calculations, fabrication listings, code compliance checks, and close coordination with mechanical, electrical, and structural teams. You'll also support estimating, proposal preparation, and parts ordering—staying connected to the full project lifecycle.
🎯 What you'll do
- Prepare detailed working fire sprinkler system drawings for NFPA 13, 13R, and ESFR systems
- Perform hydraulic calculations and generate fabrication/stock lists
- Coordinate piping location with other trades; attend project meetings and design reviews
- Assist field personnel in resolving installation issues and design deficiencies
- Support estimating and proposal preparation
- Order equipment and parts; manage supplier relationships
🧠 What you'll bring
- Strong, demonstrable experience with NFPA 13 and NFPA 13R sprinkler system design
- Experience designing ESFR sprinkler systems
- Working knowledge of NFPA 14 standpipe systems and fire pump systems
- Solid technical foundation in hydraulic calculations and fire protection system design
- Familiarity with CAD; AutoSprink software experience is a plus but not essential
- Ability to coordinate across trades and troubleshoot design issues in the field
🌟 Why you'll like it here
You're designing mission-critical safety systems, not generic infrastructure. The team values technical depth—if you understand codes and hydraulics, you have autonomy. The 3pm–11pm shift means you can work during US business hours while based in South Africa, giving you flexibility and alignment with your client's operations. This is a permanent role with a firm that invests in engineer development.
